Decorating a Living Room for Valentine’s Day with Streamers

Decorating a Living Room for Valentine’s Day with Streamers

You’ve officially packed up your Christmas and New Year’s decorations…now what? Well, it’s time to get ready for the next big holiday on the calendar: Valentine’s Day! February 14 is the day of love, and it’s a day that you can spend with whoever you want. If you’re looking forward to a day of bliss with your sweetheart, mom, kids, or best girlfriends, that’s worth decorating for and celebrating.

My choice decoration for this holiday is none other than crepe-paper streamers. Did you know it’s the most versatile party decoration? Not only are they inexpensive, but they offer you so many options. Here’s how you can use them for the upcoming holiday.

How to Use Streamers for Decorations

One of the reasons I love streamers so much is because there are so many ways they can be used. Here are my top five favorite ways to use them in your living room.

1.    Create a streamer canopy

1.    Make a back-drop out of streamers

2.    Hang, drape, or wrap streamers throughout the venue

3.    Wrap streamers around a banister or railing

4.    Fringe streamers

How to Fold Streamers

If you’re looking for an upgraded version of the crepe-paper streamer, try fringing it. It all starts when you fold the paper streamer and snip them with scissors to create a fluttering texture. From there, you can drape it in your living room or party space to create a neat effect.

Here’s how you can do it.

Materials:

·      Streamer template

·      Fold of crepe paper

·      Small binder clips

·      Fringe scissors

·      Pencils

Instructions:

1.    Print templates onto 8 ½-by-11 inch card stock and cut them out

2.    Unfurl the fold of crepe streamers> Use the width of the template as your guide, and accordion-fold the full length of the streamer. Align the dotted edges with the folded sides of the crepe paper and trace with a pencil. Cut out and leave folded edges intact.

3.    Fully unfold the garland and gently twist the crepe to give it shape.

Living Room Arrangements

The proper arrangements for your paper streamers in your living room will largely depend on your layout. However, I’ve brainstormed a few ideas that should work for you regardless of your room. These will make your Valentine’s Day festivities a smashing hit!

Create an accent wall for pictures

You can’t have a party without taking pictures! Use the tip above to fold and twist your streams to create an accent wall. This will act as your photo booth backdrop with minimal effort!

Make a canopy from your room’s central point

If you have a clear central point in your room, for example, a round coffee table, then it can be fun to create a canopy from the central point. When done correctly, most of your decorating will feel done without anything else as it really changes up the feel of the room.

Frame the doorway

Another unique way to use streamers is to frame your doorway. Some people create more of a curtain effect so that you can still walk through the doorway freely. Others decide to have their guests walk through streamers. Depending on your audience, either can work! If you’re looking to host adults for a Valentine’s Day party, I suggest the curtain effect. If your focus is children, you can’t beat the experience of walking through streamers!
