A Look Back at Some of My Favorite Design Trends of 2019

A Look Back at Some of My Favorite Design Trends of 2019

The New Year has a lot of people looking forward, but sometimes it is nice to reminisce. There are a lot of articles out there now predicting what the new design trends will be for 2020 and while I LOVE reading them, I also wanted to take a moment to look back on some of my favorite design trends of this past year. Below are my top 5 favorites. Here is hoping these trends won’t be going anywhere fast!

TEXTURAL TOUCHES

There was a big movement away from the sparse industrial looks. We saw a lot of rich fabrics and lush textures. Velvet in particular made a big impact in 2019, from furniture fabric, to throw pillows and curtains-the plushier the better.

STATEMENT FURNITURE

You started to see more and more curved sofas and seating conducive to conversation. The unusual furniture shapes not only make for a great group gathering but are appealing to the eye.

JEWEL TONES

I have always preferred a colorful landscape over a neutral room and 2019’s use of jewel tones was a complete joy for me! An array of deep rich colors from hunter green to royal blue and pops of fuchsia were encouraged and created nothing short of a truly luscious invitation.

STATEMENT CEILING

From painted ceilings to decorative light fixtures, the ceiling is no longer taking a back seat. You were being encouraged to look up in a room. While the ceiling is sometimes an afterthought, I loved seeing the playful use of colors and wallpaper to spruce up the fifth wall of a room.

WALLPAPER

We saw a great return in the use of wallpaper this last year. Encouraged mostly by the advances in style and its now easy to install (and remove) peel and stick variety. You no longer have to hire out or struggle with the messy glue application yourself, but can apply it easily in one afternoon.
