Cozy Living: Warm and Festive Sheets

Cozy Living: Warm and Festive Sheets

It’s getting colder and with places in the midwest already having had snow, all I can think about is getting cozy and warm this winter. At the top of my list are new sheets, but not just any sheets. Sure I want them to be comfortable, but they must be cute too! Below I am explaining the benefits of different fabrics and including some cute finds.

FLANNEL

Flannel sheets are made of woven fabric and provide lots of warmth while being uber soft. They are typically made from cotton and thus considered organic. If you have dreams of snuggling up in a log cabin then these for you! These plaid ones from Kohl’s are particularly rustic.

FLEECE

Fleece sheets are made from knit fabric and unlike flannel are typically made from man-made fibers. However if you are extremely cold natured then you may want to choose fleece over flannel as it is better at trapping in heat. (The cotton in flannel will release excess heat.) These snowflake sheets in a neutral white and grey will match any existing room decor!

JERSEY

Jersey sheets, like flannel and fleece are also ultra soft, but are usually cheaper and made of knit cotton (not woven)-which means they are the most breathable. If you are a sweaty sleeper but want a cozy option that doesn’t trap in much heat then I suggest going the jersey sheet route.

Spoonflower is now offering fabric designs in a variety of options ranging from jersey and blended cotton to linen and velvet among many others! I have a few options on Spoonflower myself and recently came out with the above holiday design. It comes in two colors options, the traditional red and green and another option of blue and pink. I wanted something that matched our existing bedspread and created these sheets, just for it! (Keep an eye out for a future blog with more on this later!)

SILK

If you really want to go all out then try silk sheets. They offer the same warming effects that flannel have while being hypoallergenic. Due to its natural substances, silk sheets repel allergens and bacteria. These silk sheets come in a bright red that is perfect for Christmas!

For a cheaper option choose satin sheets which are a blend of fibers, whereas silk is purely natural. You can also try bamboo sheets which boast the same softness and smoothness of silk, along with the same hypoallergenic properties, but is also slightly more durable.

Whatever you choose, I hope you stay warm and happy this holiday season!
